To be a mum

Hayley and her partner went through a missed miscarriage, which was discovered during a scan at 10 weeks. It was their first pregnancy and they have found the experience incredibly difficult. Hayley found that putting her feelings into words by writing this poem is helping her to process what has happened.

I may have never held your hand,

I’ll never see you smile,

There is so much that I would say,

If I could sit with you a while.

Each moment that I spent with you,

Is my favourite one by far,

The pride I felt to have you close,

Will never leave my heart.

They said these odds were one in four,

That nothing could be done,

But I’ll forever hold on to,

How it feels to be a mum.
