Today I went to the park with Mummy
Today I went to the park with mummy,
And fed the ducks at the pond,
I chatted and told jokes the whole way there,
Oh how I love our special bond.
Today I went to the park with mummy,
And I ran and skipped through the playground,
All the mummies and children were laughing,
I know that my mummy loves that sound.
Today I went to the park with mummy,
And we watched as other children rode their bikes,
We watched as they played skipping rope,
We watched the sky as they flew their kites.
Today I went to the park with mummy,
And we listened to the children as they sang,
“Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can!”
Today I went to the park with mummy,
And watched the big kids climbing the trees,
They went as high as Jack and the Beanstalk,
Maybe one day they’ll take me!
Today I went to the park with mummy,
As she sat with tears in her eyes,
Watching the world go by,
I hate it when my mummy cries.
When I go to the park with mummy,
She always asks lots of things,
What would I have been if I grew up?
If I hadn’t have got my wings.
When I go to the park with mummy,
She dreams of the future I would have had,
All the things I would have done,
I know it makes my mummy sad.
When I go to the park with mummy,
She always asks her questions to the sky,
Am I a boy or a girl?
Why did I have to go away, why, why, why?
When I go to the park with mummy,
I try to tell her that I’m always near,
I am every child’s happiness and laughter,
Can’t you feel me mummy, I’m right here!
Let’s go to the park today mummy!
I can show you where I’ve been,
I can show you where I’m going,
I know you’ll understand once you’ve seen.
Let’s go to the park today mummy,
And just close your eyes,
Let me show you just for a moment,
How beautiful my home is in the sky.

Every laugh, every cry, every whisper,
I am each of these beautiful sounds.

And in that moment we both felt so loved.

As she felt my angel wings.
