Sharon Mills

Sharon Mills, counsellor working in Northern Ireland supporting people with pregnancy loss

I have worked with adults, children, parents and families for over 25 years in my role as a social worker and as a senior practitioner in CAMHS. During this time I have gained experience in working with trauma and its impact. I have engaged in advanced therapeutic training by completing an MA in Arts Psychotherapy and by becoming an accredited EMDR therapist.

I’ve experience of working with mum’s and couples who have post pregnancy trauma through miscarriage, still birth and birth trauma, both in my freelance work and for Adopt NI and WAVE Trauma.

I’m particularly interested in how birth trauma impacts on the parent and child in regard to attachment and child development.

I have used my skills in arts psychotherapy and EMDR (which offer a safe medium when emotion is overwhelming) to enable or improve functioning which has been negatively impacted by trauma.

Specialist experience

Through my work I have experience of helping women and couples who have experienced loss through miscarriage. I understand that the physical and emotional effects can vary depending on individual circumstances.
