Seeking views on registration of pregnancy loss

21st February 2018

When a baby dies before 24 weeks of pregnancy, there is currently no requirement – or opportunity – to recognise his or her brief life with an official birth or death certificate.

While some parents may be relieved that they don’t have to face registering their loss, others find this threshold very difficult to deal with.

However, Tim Loughton MP has recently tabled a Private Member’s Bill which includes a request for a report on whether the law ought to be changed either to allow the registration of pre-24 week pregnancy losses (so it’s a personal choice) or to require it (so it is a legal requirement).

We want to make sure this report includes the views of people in the UK who have experienced miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy, so we hope that you will share your views with us in an anonymous online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/registrationofpregnancyloss (open until 9 a.m. on Monday 5 March).

If you would like to talk to us directly about this issue, or anything else, please feel free to contact us on 01924 200 799 or at info@miscarriageassociation.org.uk
