Seeking views on registration of pregnancy loss

When a baby dies before 24 weeks of pregnancy, there is currently no requirement – or opportunity – to recognise his or her brief life with an official birth or death certificate.
While some parents may be relieved that they don’t have to face registering their loss, others find this threshold very difficult to deal with.
However, Tim Loughton MP has recently tabled a Private Member’s Bill which includes a request for a report on whether the law ought to be changed either to allow the registration of pre-24 week pregnancy losses (so it’s a personal choice) or to require it (so it is a legal requirement).
