Miscarriage and heart disease

You may have heard news stories reporting that women who have recurrent miscarriage are more likely to suffer from heart attacks.  A new study published online in the journal BJOG helps explain that, showing that recurrent miscarriage is associated with a family history of ischaemic heart disease.

If you visit the BJOG website, you can see a podcast of a discussion on this paper (go to http://www.yada-yada.co.uk/Blackwell/BJOG/BJOG_Dec2010.swf – and be patient, as it takes a little while to load)  It's quite scientific speak, but basically they are discussing the reasons that the link exists - is it that miscarriage causes heart disease or the other way round? Or is it much more complicated than that?
