Help us provide support
Many people say that it really helps to be able to talk about what’s happened to others who really listen and understand – especially people who’ve been through miscarriage themselves. We call this “peer support”. Here are some of the ways to help provide peer support:
- You could set up or help to run a support group – a group of people who have experienced pregnancy loss and meet to share their experiences and feelings and offer each other support and friendship. Most support groups meet once a month and attendance is open. Some people will come once or twice, while others attend for many months or even years, with some taking on roles of responsibility in the group. If there is no support group in your area, you might like to set one up, perhaps with another of our members or local contacts. If there is already a support group, they may be very grateful for your help in running it. If you would like to know more, one of the best ways of finding out more is to attend one of our Introductory Days on Volunteering. You can also contact The Miscarriage Association and we will send you our detailed Support Group Guidelines, which will help you decide if you would like to volunteer in this way.
- You could help to provide online support, especially by joining our online support forum as active volunteers. This means regularly logging on to respond to posts, especially any unanswered posts. Contact us if you’d like more information about what this role involves.
- You could help with online outreach – visiting other online support forums and offering support and/or information to people who might not know about the Miscarriage Association. You may be able to point people to M.A. leaflets or services if appropriate. Contact us if you’d like more information about what this role involves.
- You might be interested in offering local telephone support, especially
- If you speak a language other than English and can help us support people with little or no English. Contact us
- If you live in one of the areas targeted by our new development project: Manchester, Newcastle & Gateshead, Suffolk, Swindon and Wakefield/North Kirklees. Contact us to find out more.
